Fun fact about me, I am rather obsessed with the Rocky franchise, which is why you will almost always find a few tracks from the Rocky/Creed movie franchise on any running playlists that I make. This is was ultimately why I settled on the title “You against You,” which is a reoccurring theme in every movie in the Rocky franchise. Originally I was going title this playlist You against the road but decided that it is sorta silly to have rivalries with an inanimate object.
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” ~Brad Meltzer
Everyone has a struggle that they are dealing with whether it be financial, social, psychological, physical, spiritual or something else. If a person’s instinct is to look for someone or something to blame they will continue the same vicious cycle where they make a little progress and then throw up their hands because it didn’t go perfectly.
Running is the same way there are going to be bad runs, there are going cold runs, there are going to be wet runs, there will be blistering hot runs. If you allow these things to stop you if you allow these things to become an excuse you will never accomplish your goals. Now I am in no way saying you should run through an injury or ignore your body needing a rest day because aggravating an injury is no bueno and pushes you further from your goals.
I will leave you with Rocky’s words to his son in “Rocky Balboa”
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!”
It is just you against you. Go get it.
